2 Pickle Line is a Mattison/Aetna Equipment design,
commissioned in 1958 and was converted to Hydrochloric Acid in 1968.
This facility processes the majority of the tinplate and some galvanize
products sent to mainly to our # 1 Tandem Cold Mill and some to our # 2 Tandem Cold Mill.
#2 Pickle Line was mothballed in 1992 and retrofitted and restarted again in 1994.
During the 1994 retrofit most of the costs went towards the installation of polypropylene
coated rolls which enabled the line to run world class Tinplate.
At that time the most significant change was the removal of the entry accumulator (wet looping pit)
thus changing the line to a semi-continuous operation in that the line must be stopped every time a
weld is made?
The primary objectives for this line is to remove incoming defects,
remove iron oxides (scale), slit (edge trim),
and to lubricate the strip surfaces with an oil film prior to sending the coils to the cold mills.
This facility consists of three processing sections (Entry Section/Acid Section/ Delivery Section).
The chart below depicts the major equipment in each of the three sections.
